Bill Bounds' Obituary

 

Bill Carman Bounds - May 24, 1935-Dec. 13, 2013 Bill Carman Bounds, a lifelong Gulf Coast resident passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. Bill was born May 24, 1935 in Lumberton, MS. He attended and played football at FCAHS in Brooklyn, MS. In 1954 he joined the Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was discharged in 1957 but stayed active in the Mississippi and Alabama National Guard, retiring as a Major after 25 years of service. Bill attended Pearl River Junior College for two years, then graduated from William Carey College in 1961 with a degree in biology. He loved to fish and observe the beauties of nature. Bill won a Mississippi State Golden Gloves Tourney in 1955. He coached amateur boxing in college and for many years in south Alabama. After graduation, Bill taught high school biology for a year, then accepted a position as Environmental Chemist with the Geigy chemical Corporation, which later became Ciba Geigy. He retired as the Supervisor of the Environmental Technical Laboratory. He is survived by his wife Mary Blakeney; children, Mark (Melissa), Carmen (Johnny Owens) and David (Shannon); grandchildren, Bonnie and Brittany Bounds, Ryan and Jasmine Owens, Jacob and Sam Riley Bounds; sisters, Nancy (D.V.) Soley, Cleo (Bud) Fore, Penny (Joe) Lee-Holloman; brothers, Gus (Wilna) Bounds, Rev. Millard (Arland) Bounds, Henry (Paulette) Bounds, and Ira Bounds. Bill enjoyed telling and sharing stories about family history with everyone. His stories have been published on a personal website as part of his legacy. Funeral service will be held at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning two hours prior to service. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec 17th at 10:00 a.m. in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Carnes, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ida Bounds Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Mary Ida Ellis, 140 Matthew Johnson Rd., Wiggins, MS. 30577.
